About me

I’m Joe Roddis — a television producer with several years experience across British and international broadcasts, specialising in casting, story producing, edit producing and welfare. I’ve produced headline-grabbing shows and standout episodes for major series, contributing to productions that have gone on to win industry awards. I’m driven by delivering engaging high-quality content, shaping authentic stories and supporting contributors responsibly.

My work spans both studio and location based productions, where I’ve honed my ability to find and cast compelling contributors, craft strong narrative arcs, oversee edits and maintain a calm, solution-focused presence on busy teams. I’m collaborative, adaptable and detail-driven — someone who thrives on bringing the right people together to make the story shine.

Alongside production, I regularly deliver talks in schools, universities and organisations about working in television, breaking into the industry and, importantly, prioritising contributor welfare. Ensuring people are treated ethically, sensitively and with proper care is central to my approach and informs every part of my work.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue creating impactful factual and entertainment programming that champions real people and real stories, while promoting a positive, responsible production culture.

TALKS

With extensive experience across a wide range of factual, documentary, and entertainment projects. Over the years, I have shared my knowledge and experience through talks at schools, universities, and professional courses, offering insights into how the television industry works and what it takes to succeed behind the camera. I began my career with a passion for storytelling and gradually built expertise in developing, producing, and delivering compelling content that resonates with audiences.

A key focus of my work is the welfare of contributors — ensuring that participants feel supported, safe, and respected throughout the filming process and long after production wraps. I strongly believe that responsible production practices are not just ethical, but essential for creating authentic, high-quality programming. My talks and mentorship sessions highlight both the creative and practical aspects of producing television, the challenges and opportunities of the industry, and the vital role of contributor care in building trust and delivering meaningful stories.

GETTING INTO TV

I have delivered engaging talks and workshops in schools about how to break into the world of television, sharing practical insights from my own journey and demystifying the industry for young people. Speaking to many students aged between 11–18, I focus on inspiring them to explore creative careers, highlighting the wide range of roles available both in front of and behind the camera. My sessions aim to boost confidence, encourage curiosity, and show that working in TV is an achievable goal regardless of class, race, sexuality or gender. Through real examples, interactive discussions, and honest advice, I strive to spark enthusiasm and help the next generation imagine themselves shaping the future of television.

CASTING

I have led a range of seminars and webinars focused on the craft of casting, sharing the tools, techniques, and insights that help bring real stories and compelling personalities to screen. Drawing on my professional experience, I guide participants through the full process—from finding the right people for entertainment shows and documentaries to building trust and helping them feel confident about appearing on camera. My sessions explore everything from outreach strategies and interview approaches to the ethics of working with contributors and supporting them as they share their stories. Whether speaking to aspiring producers, researchers, or casting teams, I aim to demystify the casting process and demonstrate how thoughtful, responsible casting can elevate a programme and empower the people at its heart.

WELFARE

I speak openly, honestly, and with real transparency about my experience working on shows such as 'The Jeremy Kyle Show', a programme that became a pivotal turning point in the industry’s awareness of duty of care and contributor welfare. Reflecting on that chapter of my career, I discuss how it shaped my understanding of responsible production, the importance of safeguarding, and the need for robust support systems before, during, and after filming. In my talks, I’m frank about what I learned—both the challenges and the growth—and how those lessons continue to guide me. As I move into future projects, I’m committed to approaching every production with the utmost professionalism, compassion, and ethical responsibility, ensuring contributors are treated with respect and supported throughout their journey on and off screen.

Jonathan - Victim's Partner

"I want to thank Joe for conceiving & conceptualizing this wonderful documentary, and getting it made. Joe's excellent work captures the essence of who Philip was, his tragic hate crime murder, and the sadness about how badly he is missed."

my values

With extensive experience across a wide range of challenging and high‑profile shows. Working on projects that deal with sensitive, emotional, or complex subject matter has shown me firsthand how crucial contributor welfare is — not just during filming, but long after the cameras stop rolling. I approach every production with a deep sense of responsibility, striving to create environments where participants feel safe, heard, and respected.

I am committed to continually expanding my knowledge of duty of care, learning from each production, and keeping up with best practices to ensure ethical, thoughtful, and responsible storytelling. I firmly believe that prioritising the wellbeing of contributors is not only the right thing to do — it also allows us to create the most authentic, compelling, and impactful content possible. By combining creativity, strategic planning, and genuine care, I aim to produce work that resonates with audiences while honouring the trust placed in us by those who share their stories.
